Freewheeling Francis is the bible of Francis Delacroix’s body of work – and of his own personal religion.
The book gathers over one hundred portraits of youth and beyond from around the world, across one hundred and sixty paper-textured pages.
It’s an object charged with the impression of a lifetime – as present as the newspaper it resembles, and as infinite as finding an old one kept as a relic in your cool uncle’s basement.
Printed on lightweight 55gsm newspaper paper (35x50cm), the book collects all the non-commercial shots taken by the artist over the past decade: friends and icons, fetishes and iconoclasts, spanning from the fading glitz of a certain rock ’n’ roll scene to the doubtlessly sharp streets of Paris, Milan, New York, London, Rome – and beyond. From Jimmy Page to The Dare, from Abel Ferrara to Amanda Lear, Richard Kern, Anton Newcombe, and many more – just to name a few.
Interspersed among group portraits and still lifes are notes by friends and poets, as well as fragments, trivia, and ephemera from the artist himself – scanned, preserved, and impressed on paper.
The book contains a foreword written by Meg Superstar Princess, and an afterword by Nicolo Michielin.
The packaging that envelops the book is as freewheelin’ as its content: a jute bag with the title impressed and numbered by a hip tag for a killing pen. From 1 to 200 – the total and final number of copies.
160 pages, numbered and signed.
